COURSE MAP HERE
Internationally known for its Mountain biking, we will now take you on this spectacular terrain on foot. The land of the surreal and home of canyons. The Ultimate XC series has build a reputation for creating courses that are unique, diversified and beautifull. Believe me we will not fail you on this one.
Danelle Ballengee; world class athlete, will be the course setter for our first Offroad 50km, 20 miler and 10 miler in the Moab desert. The secenery will be spectacular. We will take you where very few people have ever been before.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
All our courses are very well marked. They do not require navigation or using a compas.
BEWARE:
No baby allowed. Most of our distance advertised are wrong. For instance our 10 miler turned out to be a 13 miler. Our 20 miler was really a 24 miler and our 50km was in reality a 56 km.
This is not a normal or standard 50km. The Ultimate Xc Moab Edition 50km is considered as one of the hardest 50km on the planet. Most of our particpants will attest that this is as hard as a 50 miler. As a rule of Thumb, if you can run a 50km in 6 hours ;count to run this one in 9 hours. Yes 50% more time to complete the same distance. If this sound like a daunting task, this race is probably not for you.
We were sold out last year and probably will be again in 2009. Their is no BULL in this statement. 30% of our runners registered in 2008 to the 50km decided to call it quit after 20 miles. Make sure that you register to the right distance.
If you are up to a major challenge, this is for you.
Dan Des Rosiers
10-Miler: Starting at the Pritchett Canyon entrance at Jackson Trail Parking Lot, participants will proceed up Pritchett Canyon Jeep Road (5.5 miles)The Pritchett Canyon is a spectacular canyon with walls varying from 200 feet to 300 feet on each side of the trail. You will wonder if you are not at the age of the dinasor or if suddently the time has gone back by 1,000 years. It is a weird feeling but it took me a while to get used to it once I was running in the canyon. It is very rugged and keeps climbing for about 500 feet until you reach a pass with spectacular views. This first section of 5.5 miles is extensively used by Jeep in the area and will consequently allow racers to spread out. We have no potential bottleneck effect here before reaching the first single track in the Hunter Canyon later on the course . Once at the top of the pass the Jeep road/Trail levels out somewhat and the pace will be a bit faster .Your first aid station will be located at a 4 corner intersection (.5.5 miles)where you will then head towards Hunter Canyon. Continuing on the Hunter canyon Trail you will soon reach the Hunter canyon Single track running on top of the Canyon with sheer drop of over 500 feet on your left hand side. You will progessively go down into the canyon until you reach the aid station # 2 . This section is absolutely spectacular for the next 1.3 miles connecting to Kane Creek Road where Aid station # 2 will be located. You will then follow the Kane Creek brook/stream at the bottom of the canyon to the finish at the Jackson Trail Parking Lot. If the water level is too high at the bottom of the canyon, participants will proceed on the road to the finish line( 2 miles away). Although the course is offcially our 10miler the actual mileage is closer to 13 miles
Here is what to expect on the 10 miler
How much elevation on the 10 miler?
THIS IS THE FIRST CUT OFF TIME OF 4 HOURS or 12.30 pm at mile 8.8. IF ANY OF THE 10 MILER ARE NOT HERE IN 4 HOURS OR 12.30 YOU WILL BE SENT TO THE FINISH LINE USING THE KANE CREEK ROAD
